LANstey

This was an activity suggestion put forth from Daniel to the Crew, a mini LAN party at our house (Primmer Ave) over Friday and Saturday. Brendan, Michael, Clare Ash, Daniel and myself were there on Friday networking everything while partly watching Alex’s maraTHUMB video (thumb wars, frankenthumb etc).once we got set up the obvious choice of game was Red Alert. Later on we progressed to Age of Empires and then Brendan, Daniel and myself were left to play Age of Mythology. Brendan was back the next morning to play more Age of Mythology right through the afternoon.

“Into the Woods”

Anstey at the Theatre

Wednesday night Alex, Marc, Daniel and Myself went to see the musical “Into the Woods” at the Odeon Theatre at Norwood. The show was based on a mix of different fairytales and the first act ended with the happy ever after, the second act showed that nothing is ever happy ever after. It was a pretty good show with pretty good actors and singing and the first act was definitely a good laugh. Although we planned for coffee and ice cream afterwards, by the time the show was over everything was closed.

Jacobs Creek Golf

Barg, Brendan and I helped at the 2005 Jacobs Creek Golf Tournament from the 17th to the 20th of Febuary as the Rovers help do the scoreboards and scoring as bits and pieces and get paid a minimal amount for their time. Barg did the most work, doing the wind stick on Thursday and Friday and then the scoreboard on Saturday. Brendan and I did a scoreboard on the weekend. Unfortunately it was the board in the far far corner of the course away from anything with very few people to actually look at it. Barg also proved his navigating skills when we almost ended up at the front gate when the scoreboard we wanted was in the complete opposite direction. Sunday we helped pack everything up and had some wine and drinks donated to us so we sat down for a bit behind one of the main score boards.

AdVenture Expo

Brendan, Michael and myself helped out with the Easter Venture display at the years AdVenture Expo on the 18th. the Expo is a night for Venturers where they do some small activities run mostly by the adventurous activity teams and can see displays on things or activities relevant to them. Unfortunately promoting EV required being in theme (horror) so Brendan was given a brown hooded cloak and blood coming out of his eyes, which is apparently really itchy. Since Michael came late he was given the worst costume ever -a stripy flannelette sheet (every one has one of these at home I’m sure) with two eyeholes cut out, making him a stripy ghost. I’d already bought a Goth dress for EV but hadn’t modified it as yet. There wasn’t too much for us to do, EV ran apple carving and a game outside and that left us to pretty much just look the part. Afterwards we went down to Café De Villis for some pretty good food considering most of us hadn’t eaten all night.

Alex had her “Bad Shirt” house warming this night but unfortunately since the expo went so long we weren’t able to make it but Simon did go.

Andre and Heathers Boot

Heather from Pine Forest and more importantly, Andre from Lones were both booted at Bloo’s hall on Saturday. It was a fairly low-key event but once they finally got some music it wasn’t too bad, though we pretty much just kept to ourselves. There was a huge turnout of Old Boys, which seemed to make up most of the crowd.

B & B Boot

Bunnies and Bogans

Sat Febuary the 5th saw the eagerly awaited and very overdue Boot of Andrew “Bunny” Perger and Gavin “Gav” Johnson at the HopeValley Scout Hall. In true Anstey Tradition both were well past Rover age though Febuary was our first opportunity to fit the boot into a vey busy 12 months. The event was the first ever crew organized boot party, unfortunately for Jason Stnading who resorted to throwing his own boot party.

Fortunately Anstey secured and continually double checked the most important factor for a Boot Party – The Bootees, who have a tendency not to come to things…

Both Bunny and Gav were founding members of the Hillcrest Rover Crew started in 1999 which later became the Anstey Rover Crew and both have had numerous roles in scouting through out their time in Rovers. Both contributed significantly in the shaping of the crew.
Bunny was the inaugural Crew leader for Hillcrest/Anstey and was crew leader again in 2001-2003. Bunny has been an assistant scout leader with Hillcrest Scout Group and activities officer briefly for BRC. He also attended the fateful NRC held in Canberra in 2003 during the bushfires. Bunny was a big supporter of Sandblast where he is remembered for once disappearing for a whole night remembering only that he’d seen a small furry animal and dug a hole somewhere.

Gav was crew leader for 2000-2001 and heavily involved in Sandblast organization as
Track coordinator. He has been and continues to be involved with numerous large scouting events such as supersplash and Youth Team Challenge as part of “Team Jim”. Gav is also remembered for the naked dancing at sandblast and the new years with the shoe.

A huge amount of effort was put into the night by the crew not to mention our severly depleted bank account. The boot sported a pig on a spit, spa with DVD player, fantastic punch and a powerpoint presentation of the boys over the last few years as well as old and current crew members. Bunny and Gav both received (car) boots with photos as a memento of their time in Anstey, now an Anstey tradition.

It was great to see so many old crew members there to see the two booted which was appreciated. Thank you to everyone who came to the boot and to those who helped set up and pack up. Im sure everyone also appreciated Ash carving the pig in Spedos as well!
